Horseback Riding at Marble Mountain Ranch

Trail Rides

Each day at the ranch you and your family have a one hour horse ride on our scenic mountain trails in the Klamath River region and one hour in the covered arena.

Arena Riding

During your daily one hour arena horse riding experience we teach you foundational equestrian skills through a variety of arena games.

Hands On Horse Experiences

For those of you seeking hands-on experience with our horses, we offer a grooming experience on Thursday afternoons.

Horseback Riding Vacations Programmed To Match Your Abilities

Horseback riding at our family guest Ranch is choreographed to match your skill level with the right horse and terrain. Group sizes are limited to 8-10 riders  with a 1 staff member to 5 guests ratio

Upon arrival, we provide a riding orientation and skill analysis in our covered arena. As you progress, advanced riders can tackle more challenging dude ranch horseback riding sections, featuring creek crossings, ancient mining flumes, and elevation gains through the majestic Klamath Forest.

Engaging Scenic Riding

We ride through ancient Douglas Fir stands to high vistas with views across deep river valleys and granite ridge tops. The terrain here is dramatic, varied, and rugged, so horse and rider are provided with an evolving backdrop of challenges, obstacles, and landscapes to ride through.

The scenic grandeur and rewarding challenges of mountain trail horseback riding create a remarkable opportunity to join horse and rider with the historic American West on incredible outdoor adventures.

Get to Know Your Horse

We pair you with the same horse throughout your stay, allowing you to build a lasting bond with your new best friend.

Intimate Group Sizes

All trail rides at Marble Mountain Ranch are an intimate hands on experience with our horses and staff. An average ride consists of 8-10 riders and 2-3 staff members.

Skill Appropriate Rides

Each horse ride at Marble Mountain Ranch is tailored to fit the skill level of the riders. We balance safety and adventure for an ideal horseback riding experience.

Preparing For Horseback Riding Vacations

Our equestrian vacations for novice horse riders and younger riders include round-pen and arena horse riding instruction. Arena riding is instructional in purpose and formatted in engaging games designed to simulate trail conditions found on our local Klamath National Forest wilderness trails

Our focus in the arena is to build horsemanship skills immediately applicable to mountain trail scenarios. We also assign our novice riders to easier trail sections and level ranch perimeter trail rides that are shorter and closer to our ranch base.

Novice riders will find the Western Riding style to be user friendly, while experienced English riders will find the application of their existing horsemanship skills in a new setting to be rewarding. Our equestrian vacations are based on stock that is bred and trained by our staff and family so that we intimately know the personalities and traits of our horses.

Types of Horseback Riding

Arena Riding

Arena riding instruction is offered as part of your normal riding holiday at Marble Mountain Ranch and is included in your fare. We teach a Western “Mountain” riding style originating from our experience as outfitters in a wilderness mountain setting. Our arena instruction is aimed at helping you enjoy the spectacular scenic trails of California’s Marble Mountain Wilderness and the Klamath National Forest.

Western Riding

In your Western riding at the Marble Mountain Ranch riding centre, our trail courses will provide you with opportunities to ride through an ever changing mix of real world trail obstacles. The pleasure and challenge of this style of “mountain gymkhana” is not so much in galloping through the forest at faster gates, but in the communication between horse and rider while successfully negotiating a variety of challenging trail conditions. All of this is done in a spectacular wilderness setting, with trail appropriate gates, and with horses familiar with working in natural settings.

Mountain Riding

Mountain trail riding is by nature going to include elevation changes in the course of the ride. Added to the uphill and downhill portions of a mountain trail ride are creek crossings, tight turns, trail tread variations, obstacles to ride over or around, dense foliage canopies, abundant wildlife, and solitude.

Horseback Riding Safety

Hands On Education

Each day you and your family receive hands on equestrian riding skills education tailored to your individual needs

Small Group Sizes

We keep our trail riding group sizes small! This allows us as your wrangling staff to always be available to lend a helping hand

Helmets Required

We set the industry standard for safety at Marble Mountain Ranch. Part of our safety first approach involves mandatory helmet use

The unique set of riding skills needed for mountain trail riding is not usually learned with riding time limited to the arena. To manage the riding risks for your cowboy trail riding holiday, we start your visit after your arrival on Monday with an arena horse orientation and simple skills evaluation.

Our trail rides begin the following day (Tuesday) with easier rides closer to our ranch base, and graduating to longer and more difficult rides as the week progresses. We also schedule daily arena time to teach Western trail riding skills through fun and engaging games on horseback. Our 100′ X 150′ covered arena provides a comfortable shaded setting and has a  groomed sand riding base.  The arena also offers a great controlled setting to practice riding skills while riding at faster gates.

PLEASE NOTE:  All riders must weigh-in at the arena orientation on day one.  Our riding weight limit is 230 pounds (104 Kg) per person.
